The  ICON  of Malaysia, a state-of-the-art structure standing tall at 451.9 meters ( 1483 ft ) sitting at the City Centre of Kuala Lumpur. The Petronas Twin Towers were the tallest architectural structure in the world from 1998 to 2004. But, this majestic twins still the tallest twin buildings in the world.

Both tower having 88 storey each, was built to house the Malaysian national oil company “Petronas”.Besides offices, is also the home for the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, shopping mall, restaurants and cinemas.

The Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board has made Kuala Lumpur city a more  friendly  city, whereby they have introduced   a  Hop On Hop Off  city tour services to our tourists and also our fellow Malaysian.

This is a customized public transport system, where it link up most of the tourists attraction spots within the city area and thus make it much easier for tourists to move around. A more convenient and efficient  way to discover Kuala Lumpur.

GOKL City Bus, Free bus service in Kuala Lumpur

Good news for GoKL city bus user, effective tomorrow  1^st May 2014, GoKL city bus will introduce 2 new lines, the Red and Blue lines in addition to the existing Green and Purple lines. It is FREE.

GoKL  city bus was introduced on 1^st September 2012 as part of the government program in improving the urban transport system. Initially only serving 2 routes, the Purple Line ( Pasar Seni / Bukit Bintang) Green Line ( KLCC / Bukit Bintang ). As from tomorrow ( which is a public holiday ) you have 2 new lines, the Red Line ( KL Sentral / Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman ) and the Blue Line ( Medan Mara /Bukit Bintang ).

This is a PLUS point for KL goers, whether you are local or tourists, you will find Kuala Lumpur is much more pleasant city where you can move around easily.

With these additional lines, GoKL will have more than 60 stops,and most of the stops are near the tourists attraction , shopping malls, hotels, restaurant and some of the stops enable you to change to other mode of transport.

Centre Market / Pasar Seni / 中央艺术坊

Centre Market , from its name you know it’s a sort of  a market place. Yes, It was a wet market founded in 1888 and was rebuilt in the 1930s, and to-date it has been classified as a heritage site.Centre Market is now  a famous landmark for Malaysia culture and heritage.

Petaling Street ( Jalan Petaling 茨厂街 )

Once you are in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Street is a place you should not miss, the “ Chinatown “  of Kuala Lumpur.  Petaling Street  is famously known as “ chee cheong kai “ ( 茨厂街 ) in Cantonese means Starch Factory Street. It was in history, the then  Kapitan Yap Ah Loy who built a major Tapioca mill in Petaling Street to turn the tapioca tuber into flour, that was how the name “Chee Cheong Kai”

Public Transport in Kuala Lumpur

Before I move you around to those interesting places, let’s take a look at the public transportation system in Kuala Lumpur.

As capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur has one of the most modern  transportation system  in South East Asia. To-date, it has a fairly comprehensive transport network of buses, taxi, commuter trains, monorails and light rails to provide easy access to most part of the city area and its suburb .Despite all these, Kuala Lumpur still facing traffic congestion most of the time during weekdays and I hope the situation should improve by the end of 2017 as the construction of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) is in progress.

Rapid KL buses : there are few bus operators in Kuala lumpur, Rapid KL is the major bus operator in town, it covers particularly the whole of Kuala Lumpur city and most of the places in Klang Valley. The cheapest form  of public transport, its fare can be as low as RM 1 (one ringgit) and the main station just next to Pasar Seni LRT station (Kelina Jaya Line )
