Public Transport in Kuala Lumpur

Before I move you around to those interesting places, let’s take a look at the public transportation system in Kuala Lumpur.

As capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur has one of the most modern  transportation system  in South East Asia. To-date, it has a fairly comprehensive transport network of buses, taxi, commuter trains, monorails and light rails to provide easy access to most part of the city area and its suburb .Despite all these, Kuala Lumpur still facing traffic congestion most of the time during weekdays and I hope the situation should improve by the end of 2017 as the construction of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) is in progress.

Rapid KL bus
Rapid KL buses : there are few bus operators in Kuala lumpur, Rapid KL is the major bus operator in town, it covers particularly the whole of Kuala Lumpur city and most of the places in Klang Valley. The cheapest form  of public transport, its fare can be as low as RM 1 (one ringgit) and the main station just next to Pasar Seni LRT station (Kelina Jaya Line )
Rapid KL Light Rail Transit ( LRT ) : Very popular mode of transport as it goes on rail track and always on time as it need not go through those heavy traffic jam. There are 2 lines
Light Rail Transit
namely, the Kelana Jaya Line and the Ampang Line. If you need to change your line from one to the other, you can do it at Masjid Jamek Station.
KL Monorail:  Again, this mode of transport is popular, its take you to down town, the most busy and vibrant part of Kuala Lumpur, the “Golden Triangle”. Mostly business and commercial centre, many hotels, shopping malls, restaurants and entertainment area, day time or night time, its full of activities. You can have a panorama view of the “Golden Triangle” as this rail line is elevated and is high up.

KL Monorail
KTM Commuter Train : Its operates in 2 different routes, from Sentul to Port Klang and from Rawang to Seremban town. This mode of transport is very useful for visitors who wish to go places outside of Kuala Lumpur, example, if you like to visit Batu Cave, take Sentul /Port Klang line, if you like to visit Mid-valley Mega Mall, take the Rawang / Seremban line.

KL Town Taxi : There are plenty of town taxi in Kuala Lumpur, you can easily get them by the road side or queue at those designated area. Please make sure they use meter as this is required by law. The fare start from around RM 4 and the amount will increase depend on the distance you travel and also how long you use the taxi. ( if you caught up in a traffic jam, it can caused you a lot )

Kuala Lumpur Sentral : The largest transportation hub in Kuala Lumpur City, it connect  all the three rail lines, that is, LRT, Monorail and the Commuter train, a lot of buses and taxi. Besides all these, there are also 2 rail line  from KL Sentral to Kuala Lumpur International Airport. KL Ekspres is a non-stop to KLIA, and  KL Transit  stop at Bandar Tasik Selatan, Putrajaya and Salak Tinggi. KL Ekspres takes about 30 minutes to KLIA, whereas KL Transit needs about 40 minutes.
