Once you are in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Street is a
place you should not miss, the “ Chinatown “
of Kuala Lumpur. Petaling Street is famously known as “ chee cheong kai “ ( 茨厂街 )
in Cantonese means Starch Factory Street. It was in history, the then Kapitan Yap Ah Loy who built a major Tapioca
mill in Petaling Street to turn the tapioca tuber into flour, that was how the
name “Chee Cheong Kai”
Petaling Street is infamous for its counterfeit
products, a wide range of fake replica of gem stone, watches, hand bags, shoes,
clothes, electronic and many others. However, besides all this fake products,
there are some retailers do offer genuine products. Buyers please remember to
haggle for price , especially on counterfeit products.
This street has now been transformed into a pedestrian
shopping mall and is regarded as a heritage site. This is a marvelous place for
shopper, whether for genuine or fake products.
I love to walk around and observe how the tourists haggle over the pricing with the vendors, sometime they turn to me and ask whether it is a good buy….. I just smile, sometime I shook my head !!

Petaling Street is always crowded with tourists and
also locals, besides shopping, there are a lot of eateries stalls around
serving good and delicious local food.
My favourite eating place is in Madras
lane (中华巷) ( is a lane next to petaling street, just ask
the local for direction ) where
they serve curry noodles, yong tau fu, etc., I
love the curry noodles, not the best,
but is nice and the price is reasonable.

The best way to get to Petaling Street is to hop onto
the LRT (Kelana Jaya Line ) and exit at Pasar Seni station, Petaling Street is
within a walking distance of 200 meters.
Happy Holiday
